Welcome to the Institute of Law & Economics
The Institute of Law & Economics (ILE) began with the recognition of the need to bridge the intellectual gap between the legal and economic
professions. In 1998, activities to bridge this gap started with the
provision of tutorial guidance for students doing the LLB degree by
distance learning with the University of London and the University of
Wolverhampton. Formally registered in 1999, ILE soon became agents for
Holborn College, the UK’s oldest and most established independent
college.
Activities
to further bridge the law/economics intellectual gap led to the
organisation of the ILE Forum where research, dialogue and publication
of critical thought on legal, economic and other social issues are
fostered and enhanced. In 2001, the ILE embarked on a new challenge
when it became the local agent for Turner Broadcasting System Latin
America Inc. ILE has also engaged in a number of research activities
and public education activities, particularly in trade. In doing so,
international and local alliances have been forged. Most recent is our
alliance with the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).
